Notify Technology Announces "nTouch" A New Service For Wireless E-Mail Notification and Management

New service will allow mobile users to read, reply, forward, and delete any e-mail (both business and personal) without the need of a laptop computer.

San Jose, Calif. - - (May 10, 2000) – Notify Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:NTFY) today announced "nTouch", (pronounced intuch), a new monthly service for e-mail notification and management via wireless devices. The nTouch service is a major enhancement to Notify Technology’s Visual Got Mail service adding the delivery of e-mail notification and e-mail management capabilities on SMS and WAP-enabled wireless telephones and wireless two-way messaging devices. The nTouch service will also work with the new generation of PDAs that have integrated ReFLEXä 25 wireless two-way messaging capabilities.

The service, which will provide a recurring monthly revenue stream to Notify, will initially focus on supporting two-way messaging devices using Motorola’s ReFLEX25 wireless network protocol. ReFLEX25 has become the wireless two-way messaging protocol of choice by major providers such as WebLink Wireless Inc., Arch Communications Group, Inc., PageNet Inc., Metrocall Inc., TSR Wireless LLC, SkyTel Communications Inc., an MCI WorldCom company, and others. Today, these companies provide traditional paging services to over 50 million customers, all of whom are potential subscribers to next-generation services such as two-way messaging.

The nTouch service will provide a unique end-to-end solution for wireless e-mail notification and management on ReFLEX25 networks. The service is designed to offer mobile users the option to receive and respond to their personal or business e-mails using a variety of wireless hand-held devices. Users of Notify’s nTouch service will keep using their existing e-mail accounts, creating a major simplification in actual use. This means that they will not suffer the unnecessary confusion of maintaining separate desktop and mobile e-mail addresses.

Initially, the Notify nTouch service will support two-way messaging devices such as Motorola. Inc.’s new T900 Talkaboutä and Motorola’s current PageWriterä 2000 and PF1500 devices. Notify’s nTouch service enables users to filter their personal or business e-mail to optimize what gets sent to the mobile device. The service then delivers to the mobile device a short "e-mail summary header" which contains summary information about the new e-mail including the sender, subject, date and time, size of the e-mail, and the names of any attached files. At this point, the user can choose to read a portion of the e-mail or the entire e-mail or can reply, forward, or delete the e-mail.

While other services exist and may offer filtering capability, once filtered, they transmit the entire e-mail. This is potentially inefficient and a costly use of the wireless messaging system bandwidth.

"Mobile corporate and SOHO business users need a convenient alternative wireless e-mail solution. Today there seems to be a lot of attention on Research In Motion Ltd.’s Blackberryä proprietary solution. To provide an alternative, we chose to develop nTouch for the ReFLEX 25 network because of its technical network advantages and vast carrier support in North America," commented Paul DePond, President and Founder of Notify Technology. "We are currently in discussions with several of the largest ReFLEX25 carriers who we believe will be our primary channels for our new service."

How nTouch Works

Today, mobile users have few useable options to provide them untethered access to their desktop e-mail. Notify’s nTouch provides integration between the ReFLEX25 wireless network, various two-way messaging devices and mobile users’ personal and business e-mail. For example, a typical scenario will have an executive, arriving from a flight, checking the two-way wireless messaging device carried in their pocket. With nTouch service, the wireless device will indicate that there is new e-mail. The executive reads each "e-mail summary header" and chooses whether or not to read further. For specific, time critical e-mail, the executive can, on the spot, forward the message, along with the attachments, to an associate to handle the e-mail. This is all accomplished while waiting in line for the rental car shuttle bus.

About ReFLEX25

As the strategic protocol of choice for the majority of US two-way wireless messaging providers, ReFLEX25 networks cover 313 out of 315 of the U.S. Metropolitan Standard Areas (MSAs) as well a large number of smaller towns in areas outside MSAs. This network coverage is expected to expand to both South America and Canada. Motorola’s ReFLEXä protocol is optimized for high-speed wide-area wireless data delivery utilizing small, inexpensive, "always on", disposable battery powered subscriber units.
