Notify Technology Introduces New Wireless E-Mail Software Supporting Motorolas P935 Timeport, PageWriter 2000x and T900 Talkabout
~New desktop software will provide secure, wireless access to e-mail for users connected to the Internet by Cable, DSL, or LAN/WAN service~
SAN JOSE, CALIF. November 21, 2000 Notify Technology Corp. (NASDAQ: NTFY), an innovative communications service and software provider for wireline and wireless notification and messaging services, announced its new desktop wireless e-mail software, called NotifyLink Standard Edition. Notifys new desktop software has been designed for the "always on" e-mail user who wants to be able to access and manage their business e-mail in a secure format while mobile and without the need of carrying around a bulky laptop computer. Notify defines "always on" as a continuous connection to the Internet offered by cable or DSL providers or on a LAN/WAN company environment. The NotifyLink Standard Edition software will provide users of Motorolas (NYSE:MOT) new P935 Timeportä and T900 Talkaboutä with wireless e-mail notification and management. The established installed base of Motorola PageWriter 2000x Personal Interactive Communicator users will be able to take advantage of NotifyLink Standard Edition once they upgrade their device Operating System to the new Motorola Wisdom OS 4.0
Two key features of the software make it very compelling to the business user. One feature is the encryption of wireless information forwarded from the desktop to the wireless device. This is a key security feature normally required by corporate users. The NotifyLink Standard Edition supports bi-directional RC4-128 bit encryption from the desktop to Motorolas P935 Timeport and PageWriter 2000x providing a very high-level of encryption protection for wireless communication. Another feature is the "synchronization" all e-mail activities performed on the wireless device to the appropriate folders on the users desktop.
"NotifyLink Standard Edition provides a single desktop solution to ReFLEXä carriers who are selling Motorolas P935 and T900," said Paul DePond, President and Founder of Notify Technology. "Now ReFLEX carriers have two e-mail solutions to market. One solution, recently introduced as our NotifyLink Internet service, is for dialup users and the other is our new NotifyLink Standard Edition software for "always on" users.
NotifyLink Standard Edition is scheduled to be available in December 2000. Notify is currently testing the NotifyLink Standard Edition software with several carriers.
NotifyLink Standard Edition currently supports Microsofts OutLookä 97, 98 and 2000 and will run on Microsoft Windows 9X, Windows ME, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 operating systems. Support for OutLook Express, Netscape, and Eudora are currently under development.
How The NotifyLink Standard Edition Software Works
The NotifyLink Standard Edition software is easily installed on a desktop computer connected to the Internet by a Cable, DSL, or LAN/WAN service. The software is easy to use and quickly configured. The configuration process involves the user specifying the e-mail accounts desired to be accessed by their wireless device, the setting of any filters to screen notification, and designating the type of wireless device and its associated address. In addition, the user can tailor the wireless e-mail notification "header" information to be sent to the wireless device such as account, sender, subject, date and time, attachment names, attachment sizes, partial body text, and remaining character count.
Once configured, the software will forward the filtered e-mail using the user defined "header" format of information. Once the "header" is received on the T900 or P935 device, the user will have the option to see "more" of the e-mail body or "reply", "forward", or "delete" the e-mail and its corresponding attachments. Any action taken on the new e-mail will cause the wireless synchronization of the "InBox", "Sent Items", or "Deleted Items" folders on the users desktop to be updated appropriately. All replies and forwards to e-mails from the T900 or P935 will have the users desktop e-mail address inserted in the "from" address field and not the address of the wireless device. Also, e-mails originated from the wireless device will be handled the same way.
