Notify's tips of the month:
On many touch screen devices, there is a simple way to go from the alpha to the non-alpha keyboard in one quick swipe. Hold down the punctuation key and slide to the character you want to use, then release. The keyboard will automatically return to the alpha keyboard. In addition, if punctuation symbols are normally accessed by using the shift key, you can instead tap and hold the key until the symbol pops up, then let go. The symbol will be inserted into your composition.
If you are experiencing the error, "Get total flash" on a BlackBerry device after upgrading your NotifyLink or NotifySync application, you will need to upgrade the device's operating system to version 4.5 or higher.
How to reboot your iPad in the event of a crash/freeze
1. Press the Hold and Home buttons at the same time. The Hold button is on the top right corner of the iPad. The round Home button is on the front bottom center of the iPad.
2. Continue to hold these buttons until either the screen flashes then goes dark (the iPad is off), or a red slider appears at the top of the screen.
3. If the slider appears, slide it to the right to turn off the iPad. When the screen goes dark, the iPad is off.
4. To restart the iPad, press the Hold button until the Apple icon appears. Let go of the button and the iPad reset will be complete.
On an Android device using the native ActiveSync protocol to interface with NotifyLink, the mail application may crash when an email is opened if you do not have a Drafts folder created in the mail account. Create a drafts folder in the mail account on the device and select it for synchronization from the NotifyLink Client Web portal (select Mailbox Properties > Folders). Once you re-register the device, you can open email messages successfully.
On a BlackBerry device running OS v6.0 and using the latest version of NotifyLink or NotifySync, you can access a quick menu by clicking the center button on the BlackBerry Device. This gives you quick access to several options that you might use frequently.
If you are getting an invalid credentials error when registering NotifyLink or NotifySync on your BlackBerry here is a tip on how you can verify that you are entering your password correctly. Type the password in another field so that you can see it, then copy and paste it into the password field. Remember to delete the original typing.
Before you register a new ActiveSync device with your NotifyLink account, you must clear the registration of the old device. Log in to the NotifyLink Client portal and select the General tab, then click the Device button. Click Clear Registration. This will allow you to register your new device with your NotifyLink account.
If you have updated your NotifyLink for BlackBerry app and the registration process fails to complete, resend the registration messages. Log in to the NotifyLink Client portal and select the General tab, then click the Device button. Use the Synchronize Device button to resend registration messages to your device. On the device, open NotifyLink and press the menu button. Select Get/Send. The registration should then finish.
Preserving battery life on Android Devices: Idling apps take processing power and the more apps you have idling the more power you use. Eventually this will drain the battery and impact battery life. To shut down idling apps go to Settings > Applications > Running Services and close any apps that you do not need to run in the background. However, if you use NotifyMDM or TouchDown, make sure that you don't close them. If you use one of the free apps on the Market that closes any open app on the device, such as, Advanced Task Killer, make sure you specify which apps should not be closed.
Administrator's Tip: Improve Performance on your NotifyLink Enterprise server by switching your logs from .html to .log in the system registry.
To change this, simply re-name the log file within the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Notify Technology Corporation. Select the service that you wish to change the log extension for and select LogName. Right click and select Modify and adjust the name appropriately. Finally, restart the service.
